Final Blog Entry - Successful Auction

We had a great day Saturday 9/24.  Had 109 cars for the car show, we suspect the project car auction increased participation, prior years have run about 85 to 90.  We had a great crowd, no rain (but kinda warm), and lots of participation for the auction at 2:00, here's a pic of the auction in process:

Then here's a picture of Janet Keller, Easter Seals rep, the winning bidder Jerry Purcell, and Vince Anderson from SIR Brit.

Jerry won the bidding at a price of $6100.  We are all pleased with this result - the winning bid was spot on for what we thought the market value was for the car plus Easter Seals will be getting over $5000 donation to provide rehabilitation services for people in our community.  Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this whole endeavor a success!

Auction Details and Requirements

Odds are very high that whoever is serious about bidding on this car will look over this blog.  We sincerely hope the information contained here has been helpful as you gain an understanding of the great work done on this car.

The auction is at 2:00pm on Saturday September 24th at the Newburgh IN Old Dam Site.  This coincides with the annual British Car Show that same day and location.

The winning bidder will be required to put down 10% of the winning bid amount to hold the car.  This can be by check but cash is preferred.  The balance is due within 7 days.  This must be either cash, cashiers check, or a personal check that clears prior to taking possession of the car.  The monies go directly to SIR Brit, our treasurer is Bonnie Siebert.  Bonnie will then write a check from SIR Brit to Easter Seals.  Once SIR Brit has their funds, then the new owner will get the car, the title, and a painting of the car by club member Al Salhoff which has been signed by all of us that worked on the car.

So happy bidding, and thanks for your support of Easter Seals!

Glamour Shots

Al and Dave M took some great shots of the car to help promote the auction.  Want to give another shout out to Best One Tire for their contribution of four tires.  Check out these awesome pictures!

August 23 Update - Car is Done!

The front suspension is done, including a re-check of the toe-in front alignment.  Carpeting is done in trunk.  Our to do list is basically done, we are ready to start driving this thing!

Thursday Dave M will take the car home and start driving it on a regular basis.  We also will start displaying the car in high traffic locations with signs about the auction.  Here's a picture of the car with one of our signs:

Looks awesome!

August 9 Update

Ray, Dave M, and Vince worked today.  The seats and seat belts are now installed.  The hood now latches correctly.  We have license plates and insurance, so Dave drove the car and filled up the tank.  He says it ran well.

We did notice the front wheels are kind of "bow legged", ie they stick out at the bottom more than the top.  The cause is worn bushings on the lower A arms, another common issue with MGB's.  Fortunately it's an easy fix and we have the parts.  Next Tuesday this should be tackled.

August 2nd Update

Clay, Dave M, and Vince worked today.  Carpet installation continues, many pieces require you to glue a part of the piece and let that set before doing the rest of the piece to get a great fit, so it moves kind of slow.
Worked on hood latch, found poor alignment of latch mechanism, we'll spend more time on this next week.

Installed new tires from Best One, thanks again guys!  Sprayed undercoating on inner fenders.  Installed donated top from Vince's '68 MGB onto a folding frame.  This is starting to look like a nice car!
